Yorkshire Water has received a written warning after pollution caused Bradford Beck to turn black.
The Environment Agency confirmed that it had taken the action following its investigation into pollution of the beck near Ambler Mill opposite Forster Square Retail Park this summer.
Yorkshire Water was found to have been the cause of sewage flowing into the beck intermittently due to the blockage of a sewer overflow. The blockage was repaired the following day.
The Friends of Bradford’s Becks say the action was not enough and raised concerns that the company was not to receive any “punishment”.
Yorkshire Water claims it has put measures in place to prevent a similar failure happening again.
