Six serving Greater Manchester Police officers have been dismissed without notice after a misconduct panel found gross misconduct following allegations of racial discrimination against a colleague in Bury.
Six serving Greater Manchester Police officers have been dismissed following an internal investigation into allegations of racial discrimination against a colleague.
The force’s Professional Standards Directorate launched an investigation in July 2024 after a report that an officer had been subjected to racist behaviour by colleagues in December 2023.
Following misconduct proceedings, a panel found that PC Demi Green, PC Heena Rani, PC Lucy Granby, PC Matthew Barlow, PC Matthew Hill, PC Mohammed Abid, former PC Jake Holt and a former officer granted anonymity had committed gross misconduct.
The panel also found that Sergeant Adrian Bick had committed misconduct. He was issued with a written warning.
As a result of the findings, the six serving officers were dismissed without notice, while the two former officers would have been dismissed had they still been serving.
The hearing was told that an officer referred to as PC Y, who is of African heritage and has also been granted anonymity, complained after colleagues mimicked her accent.
The panel also heard that she was compared to a suspect with a similar skin colour and that PC Abid made a derogatory comment about her hair.
The misconduct hearing lasted just over two weeks, with the panel finding breaches of professional standards relating to Equality and Diversity, Authority, Respect and Courtesy.
Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods said no officer or member of staff should have to experience discriminatory behaviour at work and praised the officer who came forward for having the confidence to report her concerns.
He said the Bury district had since been working with officers, staff and community representatives to address concerns and help build trust and confidence.
Eight current and former officers will be added to the College of Policing Barred List.
