Homeowners are being warned against enticing thieves over the festive period.
New research, by Together Mutual, reveals that over half (52 per cent) of Britons don’t have an alarm system in their house. With 29 per cent planning to leave their homes empty for over a week this Christmas, the chances of burglary go through the roof.
Latest Crime Survey for England and Wales figures suggest there were 667,000 incidents of domestic burglary last year. The research uncovered that, of those who do have an alarm installed, one in eight only switch it on when the house is empty for a prolonged period of time. A further 8 per cent never switch on their alarm at all, despite having a functioning one installed. Furthermore, one in 20 only use their alarm while sleeping but still leave their home unsecured when empty.
