Bradford Council has confirmed plans to introduce moving traffic enforcement cameras at two busy city junctions, with further locations now under consultation.

Bradford Council has confirmed plans to introduce moving traffic enforcement cameras at two busy junctions in the city.

The cameras are intended to improve road safety, reduce congestion and encourage drivers to follow existing restrictions.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras have been installed at:

Shipley Airedale Road and Leeds Road – enforcing the existing no-right-turn restriction.

Godwin Street and Sunbridge Road – enforcing the correct use of the existing yellow box junction.

The cameras will become operational on 17 August 2026.

A six-month warning period will apply at each location. During that time, first-time offenders will receive a warning notice rather than a fine.

After the warning period, drivers who ignore restrictions may receive a Penalty Charge Notice of £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days.

The council said the cameras will only enforce restrictions that are already in place and clearly signed. There are no plans to introduce new traffic restrictions as part of the programme.

Further cameras are also being considered at:

Vicar Lane and Bridge Street – enforcing the existing no-right-turn restriction.

Manchester Road and Croft Street – enforcing banned turns and preventing vehicles from blocking the yellow box junction.

A public consultation on those proposals will run from 5 August until 16 September 2026.

Councillor Andrew Judson, Bradford Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economy, Regeneration and Planning, said the measures were intended to improve safety and keep traffic moving.

He said dangerous and inconsiderate driving caused congestion, disrupted public transport and placed pedestrians and cyclists at risk.
