Two people have been arrested in connection with a fraud investigation at a funeral home.
A joint investigation by Greater Manchester Police and Trading Standards was launched following reports of fraud at a funeral home in Ashton-under-Lyne.
As part of the investigation, warrants were executed at four addresses on Monday 25 February and a 45-year-old man and a woman, aged 48, were arrested on suspicion of fraud, theft and preventing a lawful burial.
Detective Superintendent Debbie Dooley, of GMP’s Tameside District, said: “We are taking these reports very seriously, especially given the nature of the business and the potential sensitivities surrounding it.
“I appreciate this may cause some alarm in the community, but I would like to reassure people that we have launched a full investigation and we have a team of detectives dedicated to this case who are working alongside our partners in Trading Standards at Tameside Council.
“If you have any information, or if you need to speak to one of our team in relation to this investigation, then please get in touch with us on 0161 856 9286.”
