TV Presenter Convicted Of Providing Illegal Immigration Advice

Community TV presenter ordered to pay a fine of £1,200 and compensation in the sum of £1,125, for providing unregulated immigration advice.

Ms Pantea Modiri, 41, of Arrabella Drive, Putney, London, pleaded guilty to one charge of providing unregulated immigration advice and services at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

She was sentenced to a £1,200 fine, compensation in the sum of £1,125 and ordered to pay costs of £991, in addition to a victim surcharge of £120.

Ms Modiri is a prominent figure within the Persian community and has appeared regularly as a community TV presenter. She operated under 2 business names, Coronation Law LLP and Modiri & Co, advertising in a Persian community publication and a company website.

Speaking about the decision, the Deputy Immigration Services Commissioner, Dr Ian Leigh said:

“We have clear standards outlining what we expect in terms of the fitness and competence of regulated advisers.

“Ms Modiri chose to operate outside the law. I am delighted with the outcome of this case, and I hope this sends a clear message to other people considering providing immigration advice - either act within the law or you will find yourself in court.”
