More than a third of recycling waste from Bradford’s homes are “contaminated” with other kinds of waste, meaning it is taken to landfill.
Officials who deal with waste for the local authority say the process of sorting through bins that have been incorrectly filled is costing both money and time at the district's recycling plants.
Currently there is no fine for putting non-recyclable waste in the recycling bin but a legal notice is sent to offenders "asking them to comply with the bin policy".
