Detectives in Sheffield are investigating after a woman was allegedly raped in the early hours of yesterday morning (Thursday 12 May).
It is reported that sometime before 4am, a 19-year-old woman left the students union in the Western Bank area where she is believed to have taken a taxi to an address in Broomhill.
It is alleged that sometime during the journey, the taxi stopped and the woman was raped.
Officers are now working with the victim to establish the exact location of the incident.
Detective Constable Michelle Walton, the investigating officer, said: “I would like to reassure residents that this investigation is being treated as an absolute priority and we have a dedicated team of officers working on it.
“We will be reviewing CCTV footage of the area and following up a number of lines of enquiry in relation to this incident and a thorough investigation is now under way.
“The victim is currently receiving support from specially trained officers and I would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw anything suspicious to please come forward and contact police.”
