An elderly man has died following a collision involving a suspected drug driver in Stockport.
The collision took place shortly before 8.15pm on Wednesday 2 January, when a silver Ford Focus hit a pedestrian on Hall Street.
The pedestrian, a 76-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he died from his injuries a short time later.
A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving and drink driving.
Police Sergeant Darren Hancock, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has tragically lost his life as a result of this collision and we have specialist officers supporting his family.
“We know the Ford Focus travelled South East along Hall Street before it was involved in this collision and we’re appealing to anyone who saw the car in the area beforehand to get in touch.
“Whilst we have a man in custody, I’d also ask any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to call police as soon as possible so we can piece together the full circumstances surrounding this collision.”
