A 25 year old man has pleaded guilty to 12 charges of theft after a court heard numerous women were conned into handing over cash for handbags that never materialised.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Mohammed Alam of Clarendon Court Manningham, Bradford would advertise the items on the Gumtree classified site but once payment was made would break all contact with the victims and would not provide the paid for goods.
It is understood that £2,000 in all was paid to Alam who was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment to run consecutively with a prison sentence he is serving for blackmail.
Alam was also ordered to pay compensation to each of his victims, to reimburse them the amount they had paid for the supposed handbags.
