A 36-year-old man was sentenced to six years and 147 days yesterday, after attacking an off-duty police officer.
The incident took place on Black Friday in Leeds, when Owen was caught stealing and slashed the male officer on the face, neck and hand whilst he was being arrested.
He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, attempted theft and possessing an offensive weapon.
Detective Chief Superintendent Julie Sykes, of West Yorkshire Police said: "I am pleased with the sentence handed down to Owens which sends out a clear message that assaults on police officers will not be tolerated."
