A man has been given a suspended sentence after he racially abused a taxi driver and assaulted him.
The incident which took place in March last year saw, Michael Sheard order a taxi after leaving a party at around 1am in Dewsbury.
Leeds Crown Court heard how Sheard, of Field Lane, Batley, racially abused the taxi driver after he was asked to pay.
The 20-year-old punched the driver, grabbed at his collar, took the keys, a wallet and a bag containing some money whilst his victim fled the scene.
Sheard pleaded guilty to theft, racially aggravated common assault and possessing a bladed article.
He has been given eight months detention suspended for 12 months and 150 hours of unpaid work.
