A man who provided false information after he or his family members were caught speeding 67 times has been jailed.
Waqas Choudhry of Davehall Avenue Wilmslow pleaded guilty to conspiracy to pervert the course of justice at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square.
Today, Friday 6 May 2016, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He has also been disqualified from driving for 21 months.
Waqas Choudhry and members of his family were caught speeding 67 times between 2003 and 2014. Choudhry is the company director of Speedy Sofas Ltd. When prosecution notices were sent he provided false information, on behalf of himself and the family members who had also been caught speeding, unbeknownst to his family.
Choudhry also placed a German export registration plate on a Mercedes van that he used to deliver sofas around the country, in the hope he would not be caught.
Police Constable Vaughan Sherrah-Davies of GMP’s Road Crime Unit said: “Choudhry persistently broke the law and has ended up in prison.
“The dishonesty of his actions will stay with him for the rest of his life and I hope this serves as a warning - the Road Crime Unit of Greater Manchester Police is determined to prosecute those whom undermine camera enforcement and try to evade justice - we will catch up with you.”
