Police are appealing for information after a man was chased and attacked with machetes in Bolton.

Greater Manchester Police said the man was walking along Spinning Meadow, in Bolton, at around 12.25am on Wednesday 23 January when he was approached and chased by a group of six men.

The group of men – wielding machetes – stabbed the man several times before kicking him as he lay on the ground.

Five of the men are described as being Asian and one described as being black. They are thought to have been wearing casual clothing.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to hospital with multiple injuries to his head and to his body. He remains there in a serious condition.

Detective Sergeant Craig Wallace, of GMP’s Bolton Borough, said: “This is a brutal and vicious attack which has left a man seriously injured in hospital and our thoughts remain with him and his family at this incredibly difficult time.

“I want to reassure the local community that we are doing everything we can to piece together exactly what happened and trace those responsible for this senseless crime.

“I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how big or small they think it might be, to please get in touch with police.”
