Detectives investigating two separate incidents in Manchester city centre have arrested a man.
Shortly before 7.40pm on Sunday 24 February, officers were called near to Morrisons at Piccadilly Gardens. On arrival, officers found a man in his 40s with head injuries after he was hit by a man armed with a bottle.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of section 18 assault in connection with the incident.
Also in the city centre on the same night, police were called to High Street after a man in his 20s was attacked outside the Co-Op.
Four men - armed with a knife - stabbed the man in the back before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment but has also since been discharged.
Enquiries are ongoing in relation to both incidents and police have confirmed they are not being treated as linked.
Superintendent Chris Hill, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “We have been working round the clock to piece together the circumstances surrounding these incidents which we now believe to be isolated and unconnected.
“We have arrested a man in connection with the first incident and are working to trace the offenders responsible for the attack on the man outside the Co-Op.
“Thankfully both victims have been discharged from hospital and our thoughts remain with them both as they recover at home.
“I would urge anyone with any information or footage of either incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
