    Labour has strengthened its hold on Bradford council with the party gaining three seats at this year’s council elections

    The Liberal Democrats gained a seat whilst the Conservatives lost two and two Independents also lost their seats.

    Labour gained the city ward seat from an independent whilst Liberal Democrats held their Bolton and Undercliffe seat with former MP David Ward now back on Bradford Council

    Labour now has 49 seats on Bradford council with 21 Conservatives, ten Liberal Democrat, six Independents, three Green and one UKIP councillor.

    Debbie Davies - Conservative - 2192 with 48% of the vote

    Bingley Ward - Conservative Hold

    John Pennington - 2720 with 45% of the vote

    Bingley Rural - Conservative Hold

    Naveed Riaz - 1990 with 38% of the vote

    Bolton and Undercliffe Ward - Lib Dem Hold

    David Ward Liberal Democrats - 2,088 with 52% of the vote

    Bowling and Barkerend Ward - Labour Hold

    Hassan Khan - Labour - 2,643 with 67% of the vote

    Bradford Moor Ward - Lib Dem Gain

    Riaz Ahmed - Liberal Democrats - 2586 with 50% of the vote

    City Ward - Labour Gain

    Aneela Bano Ahmed - Labour 2,192 with 57% of the vote

    Clayton and Fairweather Green - Labour Hold

    Anjali Michelle Swallow - Labour 1,990 with 54% of the vote

    Craven Ward - Independent Hold

    Queensbury Ward - Independent Gain From the Tories

    Lynda Cromie - Queensbury Ward Independent - 1,507 with 38% of the votes

    Royds Ward - Labour Hold

    Andrew Thornton - Labour 1,398 with 44% of the vote

    Shipley Ward - Green Hold

     Martin Love - Green Party - 2231 - 47% of the vote

    Thornton and Allerton Ward - Labour Gain

    Beverley Mullaney - Labour - 1,795 with 43% of the votes

    Toller Ward - Labour Hold

    Arshad Hussain - Labour 3,254 with 64% of the votes

    Michael Johnson - Labour - 1143 - 46% 

    Wharfedale- Conservative hold

    Dale Smith - Conservative - 2145 - 54% of the votes

    Wibsey Ward - Labour Hold

    David Green - Labour - 1,651 with 47% of the vote

    Windhill & Wrose- Labour hold

    Alex Ross-Shaw - Labour - 1858 - 51% 

    Worth Valley - Conservative Hold

    Russell Brown - Conservatives - 1589 with 41% of the votes

    Wyke Ward - Labour Gain

    Rosie Watson - labour 1,147 with 36% of the votes

     

    Political make-up of Leeds City Council following local elections

    As a result of the local elections in Leeds on May 5 2016, the make-up of the city council is as follows:

    Overall political composition:

    Labour [LAB]: 63 seats (no change)

    Conservative [CON]: 19 seats (no change)

    Lib Dem [LD]: 9 seats (no change)

    Morley Borough Independents [MBI]: 5 seats (no change)

    Green: (GR) 3 seats (no change)

    Labour maintained control of Wakefield .

    They took 19 of the 21 contested seats in Wakefield, Conservative won the other two with a gain of one.

    Wakefield's election leaves Labour with 53 seats, Conservatives on seven, UKIP with two and one Independent.

    Labour took 11 of the 23 seats being contested in Kirklees but is still one short of a majority after the conservatives made some gains

    The election leaves Labour with 34 seats in Kirklees , the Conservatives on 20, Liberal Democrats on nine, Greens on three and three Independents.

    In Calderdale Labour lost one seat to the Conservatives but remain the largest party

    The new Calderdale council is made up of : Labour 23 seats , Conservative 22, Liberal Democrat five, and one Independent.
