A man has been sentenced to a total of 13 years after being found guilty of witness intimidation and rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Mohammed Khan, of Moorfields, Leicester, was convicted of the offences following a trial in January when he also admitted possessing a stun-gun.
The 31-year-old appeared at Leicester Crown Court where he was given a 12 year sentence for rape and one year for witness intimidation, to run consecutively.
Khan was also sentenced to five years for possession of a prohibited weapon, to run concurrently.
The court heard how the teenager was raped between May 2013 and September 2013 and that police were alerted after she told a youth worker what had happened. The weapon was recovered during subsequent searches of Khan’s address.
Detective Sergeant Lisa Greenhill from the Child Sexual Exploitation Team, who specialise in dealing with cases such as this, said: “The victim in this case has shown tremendous courage in coming forward and speaking to the police and I would like to pay testament to her for speaking out about what happened.
“I know giving evidence and re-living those few months of her life was something she found incredibly difficult as it brought back memories she would rather have buried. Despite this she has stayed determined to see it through and bring the person responsible to justice.”
