The Labour Party has accused Salma Yaqoob, an independent candidate for Bradford West, of publishing ‘misleading and false’ information.
Updated 30th May 2017
The ex-Respect party leader has circulated a campaign leaflet which says: “A vote for Salma is a vote for Corbyn.”
A spokesperson for the Labour Party said: “There is only one Labour Party candidate in Bradford West and that is Naz Shah.”
Salma Yaqoob said: “I campaigned for Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership whilst not even being a Labour Party member. Whilst I was doing that Naz Shah was on Channel 4 News undermining him as a potential leader.”
Naz Shah defended her position as the representative for Labour: “I am the Labour party candidate. I’ve worked with Jeremy Corbyn for the past 18 months. The bottom line in Bradford is that we need a Labour government and we need a Labour MP."
