An Imam at a Whalley Range Mosque has been sacked after he was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault.
Hafiz Abbasi, was given a 12-month community order after he was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault following a trial.
Abbasi, of Deer Park Road, Whalley Range, was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,000 in compensation.
32 year old Abbasi, who was suspended from his post as an imam at the Minhaj-ul-Qur’an Central Mosque in Whalley Range pending the outcome of the case, has now been sacked and a spokesman for the Mosque’s Trustees told reporters Mr Abbasi was immediately dismissed following the sentencing, adding that the mosque had rigorous safeguarding procedures.
