Bradford Woman Found Guilty of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving

A Bradford woman who reached speeds of up to 143mph in a hired Lamborghini Urus has been found guilty of causing the death of 20-year-old Mohammed Shaan Hussain.

A Bradford woman has been found guilty of causing the death of a 20-year-old man by dangerous driving after reaching speeds of up to 143mph on the M62.

Humaira Batool, 26, from the Bankfoot area of Bradford, was convicted at Leeds Crown Court of causing the death of Mohammed Shaan Hussain.

The court heard Batool had taken a turn driving a hired Lamborghini Urus during the early hours of 21 December 2022.

She reached speeds of up to 143mph before the vehicle went out of control in wet conditions at around 4.20am, while travelling westbound between junctions 22 and 23 of the M62.

The Lamborghini struck a barrier before overturning and catching fire.

Emergency services found Batool with serious leg injuries.

Mr Hussain was recovered from the vehicle but had suffered fatal injuries.

West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team launched a full investigation into the crash. Batool was subsequently arrested and, in January 2024, charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Following a trial, a jury found her guilty on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Paul Conroy said police welcomed the verdict and had always maintained Batool was responsible for choosing to drive at speeds of up to twice the motorway speed limit.

Batool will be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on 2 November.
