Headstart For Young Unemployed

More than 300 young Bradford people got jobs thanks to a scheme aimed at those not in education, employment and training.

The two-year Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership's Headstart programme helped 1,600 people aged 18-24 into work throughout the region.

It was aimed at young men and women who had been in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance for between six and nine months. Recipients dropped from 28,500 in 2012 to 8,890 now.

Bradford Council's executive member for Education, Employment and Skills, Coun Imran Khan, said: "In Bradford, the Headstart programme formed part of the Get Bradford Working initiative which to date has helped to get 2,368 unemployed people into work.

"It offered tailored support for individuals, including training and a guaranteed interview with a local employer, which has helped pave the way for many of them to get jobs.

"We have worked with partners on several initiatives to get Bradford people working and it's always great to hear the end results."

The Headstart programme started in early 2014 and was completed in March 2016.
