A gambling addict who conned two women he met on dating website singlemuslims.com out of nearly £250,000 has been jailed for 8 and a half years.
Bradford Crown Court heard that 32 year old Tahmoor Khan of Bude Road, West Bowling, who had amassed £80,000 gambling debts, posed as a wealthy businessman to take advantage of two women he contacted through the dating website singlemuslims.com.
Both victims were convinced that they would be getting married and Khan told the pair he had cash flow problems with his business and both trusting him implicitly as their soon to be husband transferred funds, the first sent him £116,000 in total and the second victim £125,000 before she eventually contacted police.
The court heard Khan counted on their cultural background preventing them from telling others what was happening for fear of bringing shame on themselves and their families. Khan pleaded guilty to two charges of fraud by false representation.
