Bradford is to re-sign a new agreement with its twin city Hamm to celebrate 15 years of collaborative working between the two cities.
A delegation of 20 from Hamm will be taking part in a programme of football, outdoor sports and water activities during their stay from 3 - 6 May.
The group of young adults with learning disabilities will play football at Marley playing fields at Keighley against Bradford Disability football club, and enjoy trying out dragon boat racing, kayaking and sailing at Doe Park, Denholme, as well as the new and very popular rope obstacle course high up in the air.
Joint sport related twinning projects have been taking place since April 2001.
The projects have involved participants from Bradford Sport and Leisure and Hamm Lebenshilfe Disability Association.
Bradford Council has offered internships within the Sport and Culture service and Bradford College has placed students from the Elisabeth Luder Vocational School in Hamm.
There has also been an exchange project between Southfield Grange in Bradford and the Alfred Delp School in Hamm. Both are special schools.
The commitment by the two cities resulted in them being awarded the Golden Star of Town Twinning in Poland in 2003 from the European Union.
Phil Barker, Bradford Council's Assistant Director for Sport and Culture, said: "This re-signing of the agreement reaffirms our commitment to joint projects between the two cities that will continue to benefit the local communities and in particular young people with disabilities.
"The partnership has been hugely successful and we look forward to it continuing well into the future."
Hilary White, BDDSL’s Chairperson said: "Over the past 15 years we have been involved in some fantastic exchange trips and our members have had the opportunity to take part in various sport and physical activity opportunities with our friends from Hamm. We look forward to developing this partnership in the future and welcoming out guests in May."
