Bradford Council has increased its winter gritting routes to cover up to 62 per cent of the district’s roads, more than any other council in West Yorkshire.
This has expanded the total potential gritting network by 11% from 626 miles last year to over 700 miles of priority roads which include bus routes, highest volume roads and access roads to hospitals and schools.
The council claims an additional £25,000 has been allocated to the winter service this year and savings have been made through more efficient route design and joint purchasing of weather forecasting services.
Bradford Council’s highways’ staff are on call around the clock from now to mid-April and 34 gritters are on standby to spread a stockpile of over 24,000 tonnes of salt.
