Community groups from across the Bradford District will come together to commemorate the Genocide of Srebrenica which took place 23 years ago.
The massacre was the single greatest atrocity to take place in Europe since the Second World War and saw the systematic murder of more than 8,000 Bosnian men and young boys in less than one week at Srebrenica, a UN protected area and safe haven.
Bradford was the first city in the UK to lay a memorial stone to commemorate Srebrenica, which is in the Peace Garden behind City Hall, and this year’s commemoration event is part of an on-going programme of activities that aim to raise awareness of the genocide.
A commemoration event will take place in City Hall to mark Srebrenica Memorial Week, which runs from Sunday 8 July to Sunday 15 July 2018.
The event, which is being organised by Bradford Council’s nationally recognised Diversity and Cohesion Service, will take place on Monday 9 July from 12.30pm to 1.30pm in the Banqueting Suite of City Hall.
