With Christmas on the way people are being advised to take a “prehab” to avoid “festive flu”.
According to new research, nearly half of people in the UK cited the Christmas period as the worst time of year for feeling run down and generally unwell, with 40 per cent stating that it took them up to two weeks to feel normal again.
Unsurprisingly, excess eating (43 per cent) and rich foods (34 per cent) topped the list as the biggest offenders, with the stress of shopping (33 per cent), the change in weather (30 per cent) and drinking too much alcohol (29 per cent) all following.
Dr Ayan Panja, TV presenter and clinical assurance advisor for the NHS, explained “People don’t realise that 60 per cent of the body’s immune system is controlled by the gut, so looking after it can make a huge difference. I always suggest a ‘Prehab’ before the festive season gets into full swing.”
