Visitors to Manchester are being reminded to stay peaceful and respectful during the religious holiday of Eid-ul-Fitr as GMP prepare for an influx of visitors to Rusholme's famous 'Curry Mile'.
Parking along Wilmslow Road will be suspended between 10pm and 6am between Wednesday 6th July 2016 and Friday 8th July 2016. The restaurants of Rusholme's 'Curry Mile' will remain open during Eid and whilst parking on the main road is prohibited, there is car parking located on Thurloe Street, Walmer Street and Hathersage Road.
Superintendent Steve Howard from Greater Manchester Police said: "Eid-ul-Fitr is a time for celebration for Muslim communities across Greater Manchester and we want to ensure that 2016 is another fantastic year for everyone joining the festivities.
“As such, we would like to appeal to everyone who lives in Greater Manchester and visitors joining us for the festivities to respect our communities and those who live here, to stay safe and act considerately whilst celebrating.
“We are proud that people travel from far and wide to celebrate Eid with us, but anyone wishing to cause problems is asked to stay away – all crime, including antisocial behaviour and public disorder, will not be tolerated.
"Officers will work to ensure communities and those visiting are kept safe and that there is minimal traffic disruption to the area with increased patrols to offer reassurance and a presence from our road policing team who will be on alert for antisocial driving, document offences or drink/drug driving. We have also been working with the Rusholme Business Association, the Council of Mosques and Manchester City Council to ensure safe and trouble-free celebrations.
"We would also like to remind people to make sure their home is safe and secure - if you are leaving your homes for the evening please make sure doors and windows are locked and alarms are set and, if not being worn, that any substantial quantities of jewellery are kept somewhere safe.
"I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Muslim community Eid Mubarak and that all visitors coming to Manchester will be given a warm welcome.”
