The incident happened on Monday 18 July between 11 and 11:20pm on the path between Back Honoria Street and Cobcroft Road in Fartown.
A 16-year-old male was walking alone near the cycle path when he saw a man walk past him.
He suddenly feels a tap on his shoulder from behind and he was confronted by a man demanding his possessions and was holding a knife.
The teenage boy manages to run away from the scene and no items were taken.
The suspect is described as a black male, in his early 20's, around 6ft 2" and average build. He was wearing a black and red baseball cap, navy tracksuit and spoke with an English accent.

"I would like to appeal to members of the public who may have seen anything suspicious in the Fartown area or recognise the description of this man to contact the police.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact myself at Kirklees CID via 101 quoting reference 13160308537 or contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
