Bradford Council has adopted a definition of antisemitism following an emotional debate.
At a meeting the majority of the district’s councillors voted to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism, which is used by a number of notable bodies including the UK and Scottish governments, the Welsh Assembly and the Crown Prosecution Service.
The motion had been raised by Labour Councillor for Wibsey Dave Green, the former Council leader, who said it was important the authority stood against racism and prejudice.
Council Leader Susan Hinchcliffe assured colleagues that adopting the definition would not lead to them being prevented from speaking out against the Israeli government.
