A Wakefield man has been convicted of manslaughter after a grandfather died from injuries sustained during an altercation in a pub.
A Wakefield man has been convicted of manslaughter following the death of a grandfather after an incident at a city pub.
Harry Mannion, aged 28, of Springfield Grange, Wakefield, was found guilty at Leeds Crown Court of the manslaughter of Tony Powles, aged 62.
The court heard that Mr Powles suffered a serious head injury during an altercation at the Red Lion pub in Wakefield on the evening of 9 October last year.
Mr Powles was taken to hospital but sadly died from his injuries on 22 October.
Mannion was initially arrested and charged with Section 20 assault before later being charged with manslaughter following Mr Powles' death.
He was remanded in custody and stood trial at Leeds Crown Court, where a jury returned a guilty verdict.
West Yorkshire Police said the case highlighted the devastating consequences that can result from acts of violence.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said the verdict would hopefully bring some comfort to Mr Powles' family as they continue to come to terms with their loss.
Mannion is due to be sentenced on 20 July.
