Two men have been sentenced following a robbery in Manchester city centre in which several victims were attacked and threatened.
Two men have been sentenced following a robbery in Manchester city centre during the early hours of Tuesday 9 September 2025.
Nathan Mellor, born on 25 April 1995, of Mitchell Gardens, Manchester, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison and given an indefinite Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering the city centre. Remi Oates, born on 29 July 2001, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to 31 weeks.
Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to Piccadilly Gardens at around 4.35am after reports that a group had attacked and robbed several victims. The victims were walking from Market Street towards Piccadilly Gardens when they were approached by a male, who forcibly snatched a blue iPhone from one victim and threatened to stab him if he was not given money. During a struggle, a group of unidentified males gathered and assaulted the victims, allowing the suspect to leave the area. A witness reported that knives had been used, prompting an urgent police response.
Officers later found Mellor near Back Piccadilly, where he initially gave false details. A distinctive phone case belonging to the victim was found on him, and checks showed he was also breaching an existing Criminal Behaviour Order imposed by Manchester Crown Court in September 2023. Officers then tracked the stolen phone and stopped a bus at Piccadilly Gardens at about 6.25am, where Oates was detained. A search found a knife and the victim’s blue iPhone in his possession.
