Up to 30,000 members of the Ahmadi Muslim community are expected to attend the Jalsa Salana event in the Hampshire countryside today, 28 July.
The gathering will feature sermons and a human chain as the community pledges allegiance to their spiritual leader. The event is due to run until Sunday.
Imam Farhad Ahmad, from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, spoke about the message they hope the gathering will send: “The main purpose of this event is to tell people what the true teachings of Islam are.
“In this day and age many people misunderstand the teachings of Islam and we’re trying to remove those misconceptions from people’s minds. We’re telling them that Islam is a religion of peace.”
