A motorcyclist had to have his leg amputated after a taxi driver drove into him in Bolton.
The driver – Mohammad Bhatti, 59, of Gilnow Lane, Bolton – was sentenced at Bolton Magistrates’ Court for driving without due care and attention.
Shortly after 6.00pm on Friday 10 November 2017, police were called to reports of a collision on the A575 Albert Road in Farnworth.
The motorcyclist was riding along Albert Road near to Lidl when Bhatti's taxi turned in to him at a junction.
On arrival, officers found a 42-year-old motorcyclist with serious leg injuries.
He was taken to hospital where after 15 attempts to save his leg, doctors had to partially amputate it.
Bhatti, who pleaded guilty, was handed the maximum sentence a court can impose for the offence – a driving ban of six months.
Police Constable Michael Cartwright, of GMP’s Road Policing Unit, said: “This was an awful collision that has left the victim with life changing injuries.
“Since this collision, he has had to live in supported accommodation while special adaptions are made to his home because of his disability. He also continues to attend physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions.
“This has completely changed his life and he has had to pay the consequences for Bhatti’s careless actions. No sentence imposed today can ever undo the damage this has caused.
“He has been incredibly brave throughout the court proceedings and I hope that he can now begin to rebuild his life.”
