The story of a German Prisoner of War camp in Skipton has been discovered – in a shoebox.
Abandoned for a century in the town library, a book full of the memoirs of German prisoners sheds light on life in the World War One camp.
Before becoming a housing estate, Raikeswood was an army base were the Bradford Pals were trained before leaving for the Somme.
The site them became a PoW camp to house German officers.
A grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will now help finance an English translation of the memoirs.
