Over 90 Bradford children have been flagged as being at risk of exploitation by criminal gangs.
Child Criminal Exploitation involves criminals targeting young people, who are often vulnerable, and enticing them to commit crimes on their behalf.
A report to the Executive describes Child Criminal Exploitation, saying: “It can include children being forced or coerced into moving drugs or money across the country as part of Organised Crime Groups to other types of activity such as shoplifting, pickpocketing, or to threaten other young people.”
Most recently, there have been 94 children in the Bradford district that have been identified as being at risk of exploitation, with 94% being male and 55% being White British, and the average age of these children is between 14 and 16.
Subsequently a scheme has been set up to combat exploitation.
Breaking the Cycles is a partnership between the Council’s youth service, youth offending team and West Yorkshire Police, and involves the voluntary sector, schools and early help teams.
