Police issue update on Oldham hostage incident

Greater Manchester Police have issued an update following the conclusion of a 25-hour armed siege in Oldham.

Shortly after 4.50am yesterday morning, 26 July, armed police entered a property on Pemberton Way and safely resolved the hostage situation that began at 3.15am on Tuesday.

A 27-year-old woman, identified as Lisa Hurley, was removed from the property without any obvious injuries but has since been taken to hospital for assessment.

A 30-year-old man, named as Marc Schofield, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and false imprisonment. He remains in custody for questioning.

In the initial hours of the incident two young boys, aged one and six, who had also been present at the start, were released from the property.

The one-year-old sustained a large cut to the back of his head which required treatment but is not believed to be serious.

Officers had attended the address in the hours prior to the hostage situation to reports of a separate incident which was resolved when a man involved left the property.

Given the previous police contact, GMP’s Professional Standards Branch has been informed.
