A video showing a Syrian refugee being bullied in a Huddersfield school has caused widespread outrage.
West Yorkshire Police said they are investigating a report of a racially-aggravated assault of a 15-year-old boy which occurred on playing fields at Almondbury Community School at about 1.00pm on 25 October.
In the video the boy is shown being dragged to the floor by another boy before water is poured into his face.
The boy’s family is believed to have fled the Syrian city of Homs, the location of a three-year siege by the Syrian military, between 2011 and 2014.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the boy and his family and has already raised over £50,000.
Superintendent Steve Dodds, of West Yorkshire Police Kirklees District, said: “A 16-year-old boy has been interviewed by voluntary attendance in connection with the incident and we are continuing to progress the investigation.”
