Shortly before 11.40pm on Monday 29 August 2016 police were called to a report of fighting on Cambrai Crescent in Winton, Eccles.
Police and Ambulance services attended and found a 26 year-old man had been stabbed and was in a serious condition.
He was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital where sadly he later died.
Police have now launched a murder investigation and a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the fighting or know what happened to get in touch.
Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson, Head of Crime at GMP said: “This is a terrible incident where a young man has lost his life. My thoughts are with his family at this extremely difficult time.
“We believe there will be lots of witnesses to this incident. I appeal to anyone who saw what happened and anyone who saw the events before or after it to contact police.
I want to appeal especially to people who live in the Cambrai Crescent, Edgeware Road area who may have witnessed any part of what happened to contact us as soon as possible.”
