Authorities were forced to close part of the M62 close to Leeds after children were spotted playing on the carriageway.
Highways England said the motorway was shut at Gildersome in both directions on Monday (11 June) evening after control room CCTV cameras "witnessed them running over all the lanes in front of traffic".
The agency said it is investigating how the children gained access to the road.
