A Leeds man charged with attempted murder with a slam gun following an incident on a Bradford street revealed he had manufactured several makeshift firearms.
Ummar Yaqoob, 30, of Hill Top Mount, Oakwood, Leeds admitted to firing the homemade gun at the living room window of a man’s house in Agar Street, Girlington, Bradford, but insists he did not intend to harm anyone.
The incident occurred on 31 March this year, after a dispute over a stolen black BMW led to Yaqoob firing on Hamza Nazir’s house in an attempt to intimidate him.
Appearing at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday, Yaqoob denied attempting to murder Mr Nazir, as well as pleads not guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
However, he did admit to charges relating to possession of a gun with intent to cause fear of violence and manufacturing a firearm.
Yaqoob explained how he had cut the pipes for the weapons and assembled them after his ex-partner Kiran Hussain ordered the components online. He claimed he had made 11 of the guns in total.
Speaking on his time manufacturing weapons, Yaqoob said: “It was a stupid hobby. I watched videos online and got carried away.”
The trial continues.
