A large emergency services operation was launched following reports of suspected human remains discovered in the River Irwell in Salford.
Greater Manchester Police, the fire and ambulance services responded to the incident near Jubilee Bridge, on Britannia Street in the Pendleton area.
Manchester Evening News reported that a leg had been discovered.
