Free Summer of Fun for children planned for parks and green spaces

Bradford’s parks and green spaces are set to serve up a Summer of Fun for children and young people from across the district.

Bradford Council will be hosting a series of free activity-packed fun days in parks across the length and breadth of the district over the school holiday.

Activities are aimed at 5 to 14 years-olds and will run from 11am to 3pm every day.

The HAF Summer of Fun events will feature sports inflatables, sports games, arts and crafts, dance sessions, adventure play, a climbing tower and lots more!

Free, healthy packed lunches will also be available to children on benefits-related free school meals.

The first event will take place at Scholemoor Community Centre on Monday 24 July. The fun will then travel around the district for six weeks with an event taking place every week day up to the final event in Roberts Park on Friday 1 September.

Among the parks to be visited are Keighley’s Devonshire Park, Windhill Community Centre, Victoria park in Clayton, Upper Wyke Recreation Ground and Knowles Park in Holme Wood.

Councillor Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for education, employment and skills, said: “We are pleased to be able to bring these popular events to our communities again this year.

“Every child deserves to enjoy their summer holiday being active, playing and having fun with friends. We know the cost of living crisis is making life very tough for many families right now so it is important we are able to offer them somewhere to take their children for an enjoyable day out at no cost.

“I would encourage families to check out when we are coming to their local park and come along and join the fun.”

The Summer of Fun events are jointly funded by the Department for Education’s Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) and JU:MP.

All children must register their name and school on arrival.
