A 38 year old motorist who fled from Police driving at nearly twice the speed limit in residential areas, driving through red lights and when stopped found to be over the drink drive limit has been jailed for 11 months.
Leeds Crown Court heard that a white Audi sped off from Police officers in Huddersfield at around 4.35am on March 5 last year.
During the subsequent Police chase the car was spotted doing over 50mph in a 30mph zone, the Audi overtook one car on the wrong side of the central reservation, was also spotted driving through red lights and reaching speeds of up to 80 mph.
Officers lost sight of the Audi but again caught up with it parked up near Salendine Nook Baptist Church with Balkar Singh sat in the back seat denying he had been driving.
A breath test showed a reading of 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 35.
Singh, of Kiln Court, Salendine Nook, who had previous convictions for drugs conspiracy and drink driving and was under a suspended sentence for perverting the course of justice in relation to a driving offence at the time, admitted dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit. He was jailed for a total of 11 months and disqualified from driving for three years five months and two weeks.
