A burglar was successfully caught by police after leaving traces of blood at the scene of a robbery in Huddersfield.
Michael John McDonnell, 44-years-old and from Huddersfield, broke into a property in Salendine Nook and was found thanks to blood he had left on glass he had shattered on entry.
McDonnell stole jewellery and electrical goods believed to cost in the region of £2,500.
A DNA match from a previous offence led to his arrest. He was sentenced yesterday (04.04.2017) to four and a half years in jail.
Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said to McDonnell: “Burglary offences, even when they are committed while people are away, cause terrible anxiety and the consequences live long in the lives of those whose homes are invaded by people like you stealing to fund a drug habit.”
