Members of Bradford’s LGBT+ community are gearing up for a special evening of celebration and recognition for local heroes.
The Bradford Pride Awards will take place at City Hall on Wednesday (28 February) at the end of LGBT+ History Month.
The awards evening will celebrate groups and residents who have given their time to improve life for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the district.
The West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson will give the keynote speech at the event.
The evening will include tributes to the victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shootings in 2016 and the recent persecution of gay and bi-sexual men in Chechnya. Popular vocalist Nathan Anthony will also perform.
The Bradford Pride Awards will cover four categories including Volunteer, LGBT+ Champion, Best LGBT+ Group and Young Active Citizen.
Award nominations have now closed and winners will be decided by a panel made up of representatives from the LGBT community, Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police.
The Bradford Pride Awards have been organised as part of Bradford LGBT History Month, a 28-day programme of entertainment, education and discussion designed to recognise and value the local LGBT community.
