Bradford Council is consulting on a new Council Tax Reduction scheme for the Bradford District.
Council Tax Reduction is a local scheme which provides Council Tax discounts for qualifying residents of working age. Those of pension age will not be affected by the proposals.
The scheme started in 2013/14 when it was paid for by government grants. The council has said that the government has since cut its Revenue Support Grant funding for the council by £120 million and will cut it to zero by 2020, leaving the council with the choice of either changing the scheme to reduce its cost or making savings from other services.
The proposed changes include reducing the maximum level of support provided by the scheme for all claimants.
