Bradford Children’s Centre clusters have achieved stage 1 of the Unicef Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI), a national standard to promote and improve breastfeeding rates.
The standard is designed to provide a benchmark of excellence in community locations, giving women with new babies support to breastfeed while developing nurturing relationships with their babies.
Latest data showing breastfeeding initiation rates (mothers who breastfeed their babies in the first 48 hours after delivery) shows an increase in the Bradford district over the last year by 2 percent from 69.5% to 71.5%. This is the highest these figures have been since 2010-11.
