Bradford is among the top 10 local authorities for the amount spent on paupers’ funerals.
A Freedom of Information request, by insurance company Royal London, revealed that Bradford Council spent £77,224 in the financial year 2017/18, placing it seventh highest in the country.
More than 3,800 of the funerals, for people who have died alone, in poverty or without relatives, were held across the UK.
The Local Government Association said the funerals were stretching budgets, costing £5,382,379 nationwide.
