Hundreds of homes and a number of major public buildings in Bradford are set to benefit from a £9.7 million expansion of the city's heat network.
The Government has announced new funding for low-carbon heat networks across the country, including an extension of Bradford's existing system.
Ministers say the Bradford scheme will provide heating to 255 homes, a hospital and seven schools and colleges.
Heat networks provide heating to multiple buildings through a shared system, with excess heat from sources such as factories or data centres potentially recycled and transported using hot-water pipes.
The Bradford investment forms part of a wider £90 million Government funding announcement supporting new and existing heat networks.
Funding is also being provided for a major project in London, where the proposed London Strategic Heat Main could eventually supply low-carbon heating to 650,000 homes. The £41 million-backed project would ultimately use tunnels running beneath and alongside the River Thames.
Across all of the projects receiving funding, the Government hopes the investment will help reduce household bills and support more than 2,000 jobs.
Energy Minister Martin McCluskey said the investment in clean heat infrastructure was intended to provide communities with lower bills, jobs and greater energy security.
