Bradford based theatre company Bloomin’ Buds will bring Jim Cartwright’s classic play Road to Kala Sangam at 7.30pm on Saturday 14 March.
Exploring the lives of people in a disadvantaged area of Lancashire during the 1980s, the play captures the desperation but also the humour of ordinary working class people as they struggle against poverty, high unemployment and deprivation in a town ravaged by the economic policies of the Thatcher government.
The play is directed by Amelia Lloyd and Leah Hand, who are completing year in industry placements with Bloomin’ Buds Theatre Company as part of their Theatre and Performance degrees from the University of Leeds. The production also features performances from ten other drama students.
Bradford based Bloomin’ Buds was founded to challenge the class divide and helps young people access theatre related opportunities including workshops and productions. As well as drama clubs and singing groups they run arts and crafts sessions and parent and baby groups across the city.
Alex Croft, Creative Director of Kala Sangam said: “We're always looking to support the best and brightest talent here in the City so we're delighted to be presenting another piece by Bloomin' Buds.
“One of our major roles here at Kala Sangam is to support up and coming artists on their journey, and it's been really exciting to see the company grow and develop over the last few years.”
